Rubicon's T-70 X-Wing as the McQuarrie Concept Art

Post by Rubicon »

I haven't posted much on here and no builds here as well, but this SIG is in my wheelhouse. You may have seen my T-65 X-Wings elsewhere, but I was given a couple of T-70s from the sequels, we won't get into that though. LOL

Anyway, the requisite start photo. I travel a lot for work so this will either be super quick or will be a nail biter to make it in under the wire.

He produced all the pre-production concept art for the original movies and some of the matt paintings used as back plates in the films themselves. A matt painting is used to fill out a wide shot when its impractical to build a set. For example, the warehouse at the end of Raiders of the lost ark is a matt painting with a small live action insert where they guy is pushing the crate along.

Ah - now I get it. Thanks Stokesy. :)
I did know what the matt painting bit was but I'd never heard of Raph before. More of a B5/ST:TOS person myself. :)

Thanks guys. Got a start on it yesterday. Cockpit insert is painted and ready. Cleaned up the wings and did a partial assembly on them.
I'm not impressed with the engineering Bandai put into this one, they phoned it in. Sprue attachment points are way to large compared to the T-65 X, the wing inserts have areas that need to be filled in locations that shouldn't need it, ejector pin locations on exposed surfaces, etc.

Just about ready for primer. The sub-assemblies are just dryfit together unit the final stages, keeps the gluing surfaces clean.

Unfortunately, work is about to get in the way, have to leave for Phoenix for 8 days this weekend. Probably not going to get the primer laid until I get back.
