Tomcat's Meng World War Toons Chaffee

Post by Tomcat64 »

With the long Easter weekend almost upon us I decided to put the StuG to one side for a few days and let the boys loose for their annual outing...

So suitably equipped, this year they've selected something from the green team
Image

Cracking open the box they found some green plastic
Image

And some more parts as well as rubber bands for the tracks
Image

An instruction book & decals
Image

Nothing too stressful by the looks of things, and they'll probably do what the want anyway...
Image

All prepared and ready to go... let's see how they get on over the weekend...
Image

No doubt the orange enigma known as...
Image
...will put in an appearance at some point too...

Cheers, Neil

So me & Mrs Tomcat started the Good Friday in the traditional manner by climbing up into the loft to replace a leaky ball valve... happy to say that once we'd figured out which bits to unscrew we've not only managed to not flood the house but it also looks like we've fixed the problem
Image

With that success under our belts after lunch Mrs TC headed for the local garden centre and me & the lads headed for the den :)

After a while they'd managed to assemble the upper hull... The fit of some of the grab handles was a little tight & after breaking one they resorted to sanding down the mounting pins a little instead of using brute force & a hammer :bash:
Image

And the lower hull - they'd also stuck in some weights to keep the thing balanced on the road wheels
Image

Then nailed those bits together
Image

There were some fiddly bits on the turret but nothing too challenging
Image

And the pile of wheels - it wouldn't be one of my builds without losing a part to the carpet monster and in this case it was one of the wheel pins, which was then replaced by a short length of styrene rod. As you can see the lads decided to call the Bodgefinder General to inspect the replacement
Image

Then it was time for a dry-fit of all the assorted bits
Image

What's next...

Very nice work although I share Luke's apprehension to be honest.

Giving the boys the airbrush might cause a similar outcome to to if you had strapped a grenade to a paint can and put your fingers in your ears. Good luck.

Just a quick update from yesterday... the lads headed to the den, selected an appropriate shade of green and then went to work...
Image

And here's how it turned out
Image

Then I headed out into the sunshine to help Mrs TC in the garden so that was it tankwise; we've got family stuff on today but hoping to get back to this project tomorrow all being well.

Thanks for looking :cheers2:

The lads managed to grab half an hour last night to get the decals laid down ready for the final push today
Image

Today the decals were weathered in by lightly misting the base colour back over the top and then details such as the machine gun barrels & aerial were picked out
Image

The wheels were finished... which inevitably involved masking tape...
Image

Let that all settle down and then throw all the bits together and we're done for another year
Image

And that brings the 3rd Foot & Mouth Yeomanry up to three units
Image

With that I'm heading back to the StuG, Bob's heading home to the shelf of doom... and the boys can embark on their next project...
Image

Bob's not allowed chocolate for obvious reasons...

The reveal is now up here

Thanks for looking :cheers2:
