I am not working on this project. Not at all

Here are all the stair treads I added last night and today after work as per the reference.
Slapped me in the face what I was missing and why my stairs looked so dorky

Reference pic from movie
Image

My treads before…only five stair treads
Image

Now with five more treads added and a wide lower one

This is the ship building sites’ staircase

Yes those stairs are deceptively tricky. So many different angles and planes to make so that it flows.
I know you will get it done nicely.....I can wait :D :th:

It is coming along Nipping away at it bit by bit
I Primed the stairs, then they will get the wood oil paints, a dry off and then the black weathering

Great to see you not back at this one :)

Digger's right that stairs can be a royal pita in real scale let alone in miniature but these are coming along nicely :th:

Well big surprise, I am modelling today 😱

Working on the Black Pearl’s curved handrails and adding the correct number of balusters..seven fyi
Business end of a cigar lighter and the curved styrene rail plus the newel post’s top
Image

This is what we are after and the image that spurred me attacking this. I see they made joints to get the railing curve.
This made more sense than bending the extra length I have and potentially fogging the whole rail up
Image

Gluing in the curve
Image
Image

I will smooth this curve out and blend the side rounds in to hide my joints
One more baluster goes at top stair
This is a huge hurdle to jump, not fully done by any means, but I see light at the end of the tunnel for this railing

I need the design skills...would take longer to develop those skills than to just make them at this point
Cad design is on my list of things to do/learn. It is a very long list

Moving the railings along, primed and then oil painted burnt umber and wiped away at wear areas.
Added a bit more black oil on the decking

Popping on the sides to test fit.
Would have been smart to do this in conjunction with cementing in the decks as things not aling perfectly….my fault but easy to overcome.
She starts to look like a real ship now

I also tested out the lanterns on the side of the doors with different led’s
I like the mood of the green/yellow one sets, but could dampen down the white one with yellow glass on the lantern
Opinions welcome.

The captain’s quarters will get a yellow led bulb, maybe a flickering one.

Oi, duh of course
I will try that. I was thinking a clear yellow ‘glass’ around the lantern, but your idea is probably the best

Lovely job this far. I like the LED idea, Was it myself - I'd dampen the exterior white down with either yellow "glass" in the lantern or, as Digger suggested, clear yellow paint on the LED.

So happy to see this thread updated. The deck looks immense and the work you've completed on the staircase has got to give you a great sense of satisfaction/pride. I think Digger and RangerNeil have a good idea regarding dimming the light a touch, you don't want the British to see the glare from it in the middle of the night! Finally, 'Why are pirates called pirates? Because they Arrrrrr.' Sorry...

Thanks to @digger303 ’s suggestion, I toned down the clear white LED’s
Used Averland sunset from Citadel to paint the led and to surface paint the white glue ‘glass’ on the lantern
Came out with a nice orangey-yellow lantern look with the led on

I was asking BFRD what I should do on the exterior of the ship and he replied what did the movies do?
Well they did many things and it makes it slightly confusing, but also gives me some artistic license.
    From old wood brown
    Image

    Dirty black/grey
    Image

    To really quite black
    ImageImage

The decks look more worn wood than anything
    ImageImage

Lots of modellers have made the ship almost jet black with black sailsImage

others more grey with light sails
    Image

The history of the ship is it was the Wicked Wench...kind of reddish brown and then sunk and burned to form the Black Pearl by Davey Jones.
I think I will do my wood effects and then really blacken things on the outer hull, more so that I did on the decks

On a bit of a delay as some flickering LED’s arrive from eBay in a week or so
I have taken up the captain’s quarters deck in the rear to access the lower decks in anticipation of some drilling and wire threading
Added some brass rings I made to the deck sides to act as the rope anchor for the cannons…you can see them on either side of the cannon windows.
I might mess around with assembling and painting the Pearl figurehead while I wait

Yes gents weathered is what we want...maybe not as battered as in the movies, but weathered

While waiting on the lights, move to making the anchors...with some mods

While the anchor’s paint dries, working on this stairs to the front deck.
The reference shows four steps and kit has only three

So, had to cut out the middle tread, re-space it, add another tread and lower the bottom

All good. Tablet looks a bit iffy....been through the wars.
Looking at your nifty vice. What's the smallest rod diameter it can hold ?

    Yes I have
I cannot say it is my specialty yet though

You really have to love Scott's commitment to weathering. He even made his iPad look beat up and cracked to hell.
