Ferrari F187-V6 Egg build

Post by Twokidsnosleep »

Well I am late and the only one at the party

Pull this one out of the stash and give it a go until the end of the month
Photo shows ridiculous amount of $ paid for a $5 kit
Looks like this was motorized, don’t think I am doing that

YA hmm, should be pretty straight forward.
I add mesh side vents, maybe some aluminum exhaust...

I made two other Fi Fujimi Q series egg cars, will be very similar

Ok here we go.
Sunday morning in the Nerd Lab and I have hacked this kit open
Cut off plastic moulded roll cage to make a metal one
Cut off radiator blocks and moved them inwards so I can do real metal mesh ones
Cut the spaces between the front and rear winglets as they were moulded solid
Opened up the vents for the turbo intakes
Patched up my scratches and stuff
Split a front tire trying it on rim...new problem never seen before

I cut off that ridiculous moulded roll cage
Then smoothed a bit and planned holes for a brass tubular cage

I heated the brass and bent it into the ‘u’ shape and soldered the two supports. It took a full two times each support arm to get it right
Things do seat into those holes, but I don’t want to stress the solder joints so this pic is with the roll cage intentionally loose

Ya weird,I have never seen tires like this :
Soft and mushy with a seam across them. I have some ABS cement, might try that

Nice to see this underway in the pits - lovely work on the replacement roll-hoop.

But that's a real bugger about that split tyre - hope you can get it sorted somehow

I read on a RC forum that Loctite is a good glue for tyres, the thin stuff. You only need a thin layer apparently scott but not tried it so cant say it works.

Well here’s an issue

Image

At least 2 full mm gap on the tire when sitting on the rim.
Plus it is right at the Pirelli logo :wall:

It is both front tires
I sanded the outer diameter of the rim and the inner diameter of the tire...and it is still too tight and expands like that
Now that I think about it, I think more internal tire diameter sanding is required as the solution
Gonna get the power drill and a sanding drum after it :bash:
Ultimate white primer on the body and then two coats of Ferrari Red paint (Splash Repsol Red actually).
In the cupboard drying No touchy!

That's a awful amount of material to remove. If you do won't you have to do the other tyre too other wise it won't sit right.
Could you take it off.... Ca it together then go to the opposite side slice it and add styrene sheet to pack it out. You wouldn't have to worry about a lot of issues then like the logo or sanding the internal edge in a perfect circle.

Well it worked out
I just increased the interior tire diameter a bit more and the lack of pressure stops the split tire opening up
You can still see the seam at the top of the front tire

Meh it was ok, thankfully the simple route worked this time
Had to use the big faster Dremel though for more torque
Image

Handy to have a little Amazon desk vacuum to clean up all the shavings...and there were lots
Very much recommend one for anyone doing lots of sanding or shaping at their bench...if you suck up a part, it is easy to retrieve

Ya
They didn’t match the tire rim/wheel diameter well
Funny tires, they have good year on one side and Pirelli on the other
Most references are Goodyear, but that logo an writing are so poorly done gotta go Pirelli
Going to do some decals before bed and then let it all sit and 2k clear next weekend

Edit: nope, Goodyear plastered all over the decals, so gotta go with that side

I love how decals bring a kit to life
Really one of my favourite parts of modelling
This is done as #28 Berger as a Ferrari #27 should only ever be Gilles Villeneuve

I was sweating a bit today as my extra 2k clear in the cup had not set up after 4 hours, but tonight everything is solid

Will get this Easter egg build done in just under the wire if I pick away after work the next few nights
Splash 2k clear kicks butt on this, even shinier in person
