2020 Group or Special Interest Builds - Poll

Post by bfrd »

Ok, Here is what I have from our discussion. Even though the Cold War was a popular suggestion, we just finished one of those not too long ago so it was excluded. Pick your top 3 favorites. Timelines to be sorted out once the voting is done. Voting is open for 30 days. We reserve the right to call it early if there are runaway subjects. Even though I am asking for 3 votes, we may only pick two so that we can have longer build times. The Summer Sci-Fi will happen regardless of anything else.

EDIT: Discussion thread is here.

The 80's seem to be the run away favorite here. Not mine though since I don't have a clue what that would actually cover! It could, with a bit of stretching, include TV and Movie or civilian subjects.

I think the original suggestion was anything you can link to being in/from the 80s, which might include fictional things from and/or set in the 80s. I had a bit of an alt-history thing in mind (not that I have the kit/kits for it yet) so here's hoping?

A lot of the best movie/TV vehicles were from the 80s, Knight Rider, A-Team van, Blue Thunder, AIrwolf, Testarossa from Miami Vice, etc. There's a LOT of overlap there.

The 80's idea seems to cover most of the other options in some way, which is why I voted for some of the more focused topics.

The 1980's was my off the cuff idea, my thinking was that it would be one of the more inclusive GB's, so if you have guys that only build armour, they wouldn't want to take part in a aeroplane GB, or vice versa, but with something as broad as a decade, pretty much everyone could find a subject to enter and stir up a bit of nostaglia in their build thread, and it would produce a more varied GB area for people to read, rather than 20 people building tanks for example. I thought it may inspire a bit of creativity in people, like when you see a photography competition and the brief is just one word, like 'Power' for example.

If the definition of a Group Build is more focussed on a particular subject than that, then feel free to discount it, it was just me throwing my 2p into the pot. I won't get precious about it .....

Too bad that one doesn't look like it will win. Convoy came out two years too early for it to make it into the 80s. Shame, I wanna see that ducky truckie.

Movies and TV is in third place. His point is that Convoy was released in 1978, so it would be under the movies and TV catagory, not 80s builds, which is in second.

Perhaps it's for the best, I love the movie but a quick look on Ebay shows just the truck (no tanker trailer) going for a couple of hundred dollars :jd:

I messed up on that one. Should have been included. I looked for Gaelic, but it was listed as Scots Gaelic and I missed it. Please tell Scotland I am very sorry. I went down the list at the bottom of the home page to select the languages (in order of use). French for Canada was a close choice as well...

You forgot THE most important one:

This error has been reported to the relevant Organ for State Security and if deemed by them to be inexcusable the appropriate Duty Car will be around to your soon to be vacant residence in the early hours to escort you to the furthest possible Gulag upon entry of which your next modelling project will be a 1:1 of a salt mine. Completion of which is estimated at 40 years!!
