Tamiya Lotus 99T

Post by HighlandPark »

This is going to be my Open Wheel buddy build. This is an old kit which has been in the stash for years. I'm building it for my son who is 38 and a passionate Formula 1 fan but hasn't the foggiest clue how to build a kit

Jim, I love this version of the Lotus. I built this kit several years ago and the quality of the kit still holds it own with anything out there. Glad to see you building it, I'll be watching with admiration.

Some progress with the build. Floor pan painted, engine and suspension installed. Cockpit finished and ready to mate with floor pan and engine.

This thing is now beginning to annoy me. It's 1987 Tamiya and the instructions are sparse and in a couple of cases, completely wrong. Fit of some parts is poor but let's crack on
Started decalling - decals fragile and brittle

So there we are. Still got bits to fit before final reveal

Thanks for looking :hi:

So I just was not happy with the way this model was going together mainly due to my stupidity in trying to shortcut Tamiya instructions. That said they are not the best and certainly not up to today's standard. So I stripped some of the chassis and engine back and started to rebuild
Decaling finished. Decals not bad for their age but I did manage to ruin a couple

Happier with the engine. Just got to add the exhaust system.

Finished chassis (nearly)

That's it for now, hope to do a final reveal in a week
