Heller Talbot Lago GP

Here we go another project :wtf:
Love this era of race cars, so was easy to twist my rubber arm after a stalled Lambo build

I cracked on yesterday and got some engine and other stuff done
The kit is a bit primitive and I am adding detail

Wheels: kit wires are ok, added valve stems and drilled out rivet holes on the backs of the brake disks
Image
Image

Body: I opened up all the rivets, louvres and any air scoops have body drilled out from behind....lots to sand up now.
I have to build all the internals and put them inside the body as the shell is in two halves like an airplane fuselage...weird  :
Image

Engine: followed my reference photo with dark heads and am adding wires. The magneto is so far elusive to me
Image
Image

Driver: found my Jimmy Flinstone driver should fit perfectly in the cockpit.

Nice! Not seen this kit before, I do fancy a go at a 'cigar' shape racing car one day. Keep getting tempted by that Italeri 1/12 Fiat, but I think the Mrs would probably smother me in my sleep if I spent that much money on a 'plastic toy'

This will look lovely once you shoot some paint at it, looking forward to seeing it.

I was pansying around how to assemble this car when I realized these guys f’d up the design and every built one I see has a horrible center seam...so time to do something out of the normal and try to make it better

Ok so more on the dash
Although there is lots of variation, most have a machined shiny dash with black bezels for the dials
Comme ca
Image

So I took some of my handy foil and contact cemented it over the plastic, poked holes and shoved in the aluminum bezels
Image

Added the tree shifter and steering wheel
Image

Not so hot dry (un)fit :shifty:
Image
It wil look better with dials and proper alignment

Friday night modelling listening to the live show Build night
This Heller is hell on final fitting :bash: :wall:
I am moving forward on it though
Image

I made some detail parts.
First a fire extinguisher for the cockpit out of brass and some wire retainers and a pin
Image

Second I changed the oil filler cap to a brass using a brass pin with copper soldered ontop using Danno’s @Kingdan magic soldering paste...works a treat mate :thumb2: Kit black plastic cap for comparison.
Image
Image

I am getting there...it is putting up a good fight though, barely can get the driver in there

Like a newborn giraffe, she is up on her wobbly feet for the first time

Image

I had to re-route the rear leaf spring attachment to a brass pin on the cockpit area as I cut out the mid body panel section where the kit pin was attaching. Seems ok ish.

Lots of panel gaps, but then so did the original race car!!!

There was no decal for the nose badge..just a cop-out black and white shape on the number roundell.
So I make a badge with Tamiya tape and some paint

Image

The decals are piss poor. I tried twice to get a number on the rear flank, but they are so thick like cardboard they won’t soften even to Tamiya X20A. They might be a good test to Paul’s trio of decal solutions

Talent schmalent, it is my basic modelling lack of skills :D
  You def got talent, no matter what you call it, or how you rhyme it. :D

I thought the first two pics at the top were the reference car again... Had to do a double take. :o

It was a blue metal foil paper from a candy wrapper I think...I hoard stuff like that when I find it
Don't tell anyone that the joint for the exhaust pieces is right under there and in no way was I too lazy to fill it so did a custom "heat wrap" for it
Lazy azz heat wrap it shall be called now ;) :shifty:

That's smarts :) I have a similar box of goodies. I wouldn't have guessed candy wrapper in a million years :)
