Thank you guys and also to all the people viewing the thread
KEV yes there is rigging. Nothing like a Brit string bag. It’s more control wires

Re: Eduard focker D VII 1/48
So I was looking at the decals that where on the side, the ducks in the row. The bottom edge of the decal was just too prominent and was bugging me. Now I was thinking a gloss would help hide the edge but I had the worry it would end up making it more of a problem then fix it.
The problem you can see the lower edge.

Now how I chose to fix this. I have heard of people sanding the decals so as it’s a kit of 1st and testing these things out I dived straight in. So with a cut down 1200 thinny some water I set about dealing with the decals
So it worked
Now it was very scary and not for the faint hearted. I managed to remove what looked to be a layer of clear protection layer. I managed to fade and remove that straight edge. I nearly had a total colamity where the water made the edge of the wing lift, quick wet brush fix solvaset and it was back down. Thank good ness.
Now back on

Re: Eduard focker D VII 1/48
Thank you guys glad your liking the build as much as me
Last night with the show on I didn’t get too much done. Was distracted ordering decals for some wnw kits that I have and will plan too build in the future.
So what did I get done
Well the very last dial was added that goes in between the guns and as the guns will be going in before the wings I added some dirt too the front area. You didn’t think it was going too stay clean did you ?
The leather around the cockpit was painted. Once every thing is done I will re add some sheen to it too make it look more like leather

Who’s I was there added some dirt too the lower fuselage so no need to turn it over when the wing is on
Guns wheels and prop need to be done so I can look at rigging and the possibility of getting the top wing on. Ow but I got too now go round and add all the flap leavers

Re: Eduard focker D VII 1/48
Some more work again last night. Finding just doing a little a day is being really good for my mojo on this. Not getting too hung up I don’t get it all done in 1 day is a nice feeling and still having the moving forward with the build.
Now I must also say posting all the progress up on here is also feeling great. Even I can flick back threw and check how my progress is going.
So got the wheels painted and glossed for some weathering. Tried too vary the tone on the edge of the wheels but not sure with the gloss if it really worked. I know they show a lot of these rubber tyres looking nearly light grey but I don’t like that look so a lightened gunze tyre rubber was applied
The prop was also painted ready for some masking to show the layers of wood.
I started to make the guns also fit. Now the come with jettison shirts for the spent ammo which are wrong for this aircraft and also the mounts on the guns where fouling the top of the fuselage so they where all cut off. Is a shame but needed doing. The kit chutes where then super glued on. I painted them Ultimate gloss black ready for some dry brushing
Here the guns are test fitted and you may just be able to see the small chutes for the ammo poking out under the gunn

Order of the day, guns and prop. While that’s drying I think I can start thinking of rigging

Re: Eduard focker D VII 1/48
The guns !!!
Well, once dry brushed using iron and then stainless for the high points have just come out so so so good. They was well and truly worth the money and will be a purchase for future builds.

They are now mounted. Stuck on with white glue.
The wheels got some weathering and a test fit. Might adjust the length of the axle stubs as they don’t sit a perfect even spaceing on each side and they are all over the place diameter wise. So will look at sleazing the wheels so they can slide on and off no problem

Next on the weekend list was the prop. Checking references these had the wooden layered props. Not a huge contrast in wood colour but noticeable. So it started with the Ultimate primer yellow. Then 3 bands of azu .4 masking tape was applied front and back, you can’t forget the back of the prop. Then Ultimate oxide was applied. The masking tape removed and then gunze wood brown thinned heavily with Ultimate so I could slowly fade the contrast until I was happy. This will dry over night before clear orange and x20 will be applied.

And to top it off I got the very first piece of rigging on

That concludes a very productive weekend
Have a great week all

Re: Eduard focker D VII 1/48
So with the dh.2 boxed back on with the Fokker.
I have given my self a build deadline of Thursday, that’s so I can take it too Telford. Might need a couple of touch ups but the main build done.
I have picked up a nice little wooden chopping block from ikea that I plan too use for a base. Some das clay and stirers will finish that off, but more on that later.
Tonight’s job was getting the wheels sorted. Now as I said earlier I wanted too sleaze the wheels so they become more stable. On the next bi plane this will be done at the build part, doing this whole painted and part built is not the best.
First step find the Albion metal tube that matches the original plastic axle and the wheel the closet. The axle was bigger than the metal tube but only by a little. I lowly spun the tube onto it making it the correct size. The same needed doing for the wheel. I had hoped I would have a drill bit he right size but they where all just a little too small, so the same idea idea of spinning it in to the wheel had too be used. Once done the tube was cut and glued into the wheel
here you can see the new wheel mounted on the right and the kit fitting on the left
It was then double quick to get the other side sorted. So it’s now on it’s own weight

While I was around the area I added some chipping the the from radiator and metal engine covers
Nothing too much just a little. I will need to get the rigging finished tomorrow some little parts and some more weathering as the white is far too clean
Had to have another quick mock up
And I do like these pics

Re: Eduard focker D VII 1/48
Thank you for all the kind words guys
Made sure I got a decent amount done last night, well if felt like a lot but doesn’t look a hife difference. Got the wheel rigging done
Put an oil wash on the lower and upper wing lozenge. Wanted to take back the bright colours.
Also added some dirt from the wheels on the lower wings. I like it but I keep looking at them and think they look just like skid marks, you know the sort I mean

Also applied some oil washes to the white. Wasn’t going to go crazy on this area I still want it to look fairly clean.

For tonight I will get a few last bits painted and added and then may be a semi gloss sprayed on some areas as it’s still a little too glossy.

Re: Eduard focker D VII 1/48
Ok I got the wings on, the last of the control rigging on, the airspeed indicator and the wheels and prop on. Ow I lost the radiator cap. Might make another but not now.
I’m calling the plane build done !!!
I will do the final reveal pics so you can see it in al it’s glory
Thank you so much to you all for following along on this build, it’s been great fun and if you have see from the “what you been buying post” the WW1 bug has truly bitten me. The next decision what do I build next. I would really like to do another entry to this group build but I know if I start a wnw there is a chance I won’t get it finished in time. Decisions

Re: Eduard focker D VII 1/48
So I really couldn’t make my mind up and while I’m writing this I still can’t decide. Paul said as I have just got the Gotha I should build that, but it will never be completed in time. Any way what I have decided to do is finish off the salmson. It can’t be in the WW1 build as it was built along time ago but before I start a wnw kit I need to get this finished.
So the old thread will get dragged back too life I think. There is a high chance the pictures went during the photo bucket dibarkle, we will see
