Thanks
I have a bit of luck with a spare roon and 2 fairly big benches i guess

Just a mini update for now
But it will show i am still working on this big badboy
For some weird and still unexplained reason i decided it was a smart idea to add photo etch exhausts on this build
So here is a little view in my eyestraining world that has taken about 4 hours so far
Image
20180516_224753 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
It starts with making the inner and outer rings
I can do quite a lot with pe but circles and tubes remain a hard thing to do for me

Image
20180516_232018 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Well that was the big part once the last strap was added

Image
20180518_105840 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I then removed and bended all the other parts
For a grand total of 48 parts per exhaust in this step (51 for each exhaust)
This took a while as some are a bit too small to do with pliers
Or my pliers are too thick ....a matter of perspective

Image
20180518_144451 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The rear pieces where added

Image
20180518_144910 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And the front pieces where next

Image
20180518_150159 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And this is what i am currently doing
Adding the connectors that move the nozzles in real life
I will need to squeeze the tops once the part is in there to make it fit properly
Then the tiny end piece at the edge of these parts and then they are done
So hopefully this torture is done in a couple of hours ,depending if i don't loose intrest and start working on some other parts

So that is it for this mini update
Hopefully i will have these exhausts and the last bits of detailing done soon and get this beast ready for painting
I will be putting it on it's own little feet before that so i can paint the entire plane in one go
Stuff like bomb bay and landing gear bay doors can be painted as seperate parts and added later on
And then we will see if it can support it's own weight

Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care
Cheers
Mark

I have that set and considered using it, but opted to get the resin set instead. Glad you used these so I could see how they look. LOL Great job! The resin stuff was tedious, but not nearly as much as that seems to be.

Thanks guys
I managed to finish them yesterday evening
But i couldn't use the dremel at that time as that would have made some noise and i have elderly neighboors
So that is planned for today along with building the last parts like the landing gear and bomb bay doors and adding the last bits of photo etch
But first i will be visiting Militracks ,a fine event with lots of german WWII vehicles and this year the Saumur (french tank museum) King Tiger is there
So i will be spending half the day drooling over my favorite tank from that period in history
And maybe get some new kits ..also important

The hardest part to build are those rings
The rest just takes a long time to bend and then glue in place

I would have glue everyone of my fingers together with CA and possibly have glued myself to the work bench putting them together

How do you keep the PE work so clean? Mine always ends up with CA glue everywhere, especially when I only need to glue a part on by its edge. Yours looks spectacular!

I guess i had a lot pf practice over the years as i use pe on most of my builds
Sometimes just the kit supplied stuff but on a lot of builds i also have after market parts

Thank you
I use fairly small amounts of glue
The Colle 21 also allows you to wipe aeay some of the glue once the part is glued as it is a slow drying glue

Just catching up on everyone's build... my god ! A professional modeler at hand ! First time I see PE exhaust and they look better than resin. I wouldn't dare to tackle this kind of PE having so much trouble with what I have for the my entry in the SIG
Keep up the good work ! can't wait to see the rest

Hi guys
Time for a new update i think
As you may have seen on the ISM facebook page i am currently painting the B-1
But the thread is not that far along in the build so for now i will show the last bits of the construction and i will leave the painting and weathering for the next update

So once those after burners where finally done i got back to building the rest of the kit

Image
20180519_235258 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Starting with the landing gear wich is actually fairly sturdy once the glue was dry

Image
20180520_113015 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then a test fit of the after burners
I needed to grind out a fair bit of styrene to make them fir
This is because the styrene back plate is positioned about 5 to 6mm deeper then how they designed the kit
So you need to make room for that
Eduard also shows this in the instructions but i had to remove quite a bit more that what they showed

Image
20180520_214418 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then some tiny bits

Image
20180520_214424 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
More tiny bits

Image
20180521_002502 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20180521_002506 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20180521_002509 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
A lot more tiny bits
I made some small cuts to have a bit more surface to glue these on to as they are a bit fragile if you don't

Image
20180521_003048 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Tiny bits on the tail section

Image
20180522_112609 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The last tiny stuff
Each fin is made up from a fin and a plate
So that was fun to do :wall:

Image
20180521_010655 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then the wheels where put together

Image
20180522_113535 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Image
20180522_113548 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The bomb bay doors and those for the landing gear where primed and then painted white
After about a day of drying i moved the cocktailsticks with the masking tape to the white side so i could paint the grey side

Image
20180522_163832 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The landing gear was glued in
I figured i need them to carry the weight of the plane or i would have had to paint the entire plane in 2 stages and i didn't like that idea all that much

Image
20180522_164153 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Revell said add 70 grams of weight to keep it from tailsitting
I used a bit more but that nose wheel is quite high up

Image
20180522_165440 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
So i made another weight using tape and metal nails
Rolled that up and moved it in the nose where i placed some doubles sides tape to hold it in place

Image
20180522_170136 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
I then glued the radar piece back on and glued the nose cone on
It fell off twice allready so i figured this was the easy solution

Image
20180522_224417 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Then some masking

Image
20180523_000109 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
And it was primed with black Ultimate primer

And that is where i will stop for today
The rest is painting so that will be for the next update
Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care
Cheers

Hi guys
So as you may know this build is allready finished but the thread is not yet completed as the painting is not yet in the thread
And so today that part will get added to the thread

Image
20180524_021237 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
After the black primer i tried some shading

Image
20180524_104554 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
But that didn't work all that well
The paint covered better then i expected
With that not being a problem i had one thing i didn't like
This grey wich is H305 (Aqueous) is the same FS number that was to be used
But reference showed a darker shade

Image
20180524_225143 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
So i tried to shade it again
This time using Tamiya smoke over the grey basecolor

Image

And then mix of dark sea grey and black was used to paint it again

Image

After a coat of satin varnish i started with the decals

Image
20180525_220714 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The walkway stripe decals didn't work as well as i liked
So instead i painted those

Image

Looks okay i think

Then all the doors where added
The proces was the same as the bomb bays before them
Just Mig prod. Neutral wash to add some color and whipe that down to get some shades and a dirty look on the parts

Image

The wheels how ever where treated with a black wash leaving a much dirtier look
This wash was also used on the panel lines

Image
20180527_025930 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The wheels where put on the landing gear

Image
20180527_031930 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
The exhausts where painted with Alclad duraluminium and then shaded with Tamiya smoke

Image
20180527_032650 by Mark Verploeg - Flickr2BBcode LITE
Once they where dry i added them to the plane
And matt varnished the entire plane

And then i called it finished

So that completes this post and the build of this pretty big kit
Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take caree.
Cheers
Mark

Thank you
At the moment it is standing on a closet
But i am thinking about making a stand for it so i could place it 45 degrees vertical
It does take up a bit more room then i planned for
But i don't know if that is possible and if it is fairly cheap to make
Because there is no stand that you can buy to hold this kind of plane

That could be a idea ,thanks
But it still is just in the planning phase
Nothing is sure yet
But i am looking for something that i can rework with ease
That is the only i know at the moment
