Evil Carrot's 1/24 Italeri Porsche 911 Hard Top "1998"

Post by EvilCarrot »

Not the best looking Porsche IMHO but looks to be a nice first car kit (and it was cheap :p)

Image

Only the clear parts were bagged so a couple of parts came off the sprue.

Image

Plating on the wheels is slightly damaged but they're gonna get a different color anyway.

Image

Haven't decided on the color yet, I'm thinking either gunmetal with gold wheels or maybe something carroty.

Right, we're going full Carrot on this one with a bit of evil on the inside.

Here's the bits of the interior I sprayed today. Most people go with black but I wanted something different so I used Mr. Hobby Aqueous H033 Russet for the base color. It looks quite bright in the picture but it's more of a brown-red color.

Image

The body was made up of several pieces. Front and rear "bumpers" had to be put on separately. Needed some careful filing and clamping to get a good fit but all in all it wasn't too bad.

Image

Putting the hard top on was a bit more risky. The front window frame was slightly bent out of shape and did not join up with the front of the roof at all. I managed to attach it at the center with some tricky clamping and used sprue goo to bridge the gaps on the outer edges. I should be able to get it all flush once the sprue goo fully hardens.

Image

I also dumped the wheels in oven cleaner today, they'll be getting a nice metallic green look.

A couple of shots of the mostly finished interior taken with my fancy new Bretland-effect Photo Booth:

Image

Image

I first sprayed the inside of the lights with gloss black and then with Mr Super Metallic Plate Silver. Next I masked the lights and gave the body a few coats of MRP White primer, followed by several coats of Mr. Color RL09 (from the Mechanical Color set) I almost needed the entire jar. After smoothing out the paint with several grades of sandpaper I put the (two!!!) decals on and gave the whole thing several top coats of Mr Color GX-100. Once again I smoothed that out with several grits of sandpaper and finished with a three step polishing compound set by Novus.

Image

Image

This is when the first problems started popping up, the compound got stuck in the grooves and trying to remove it also removed a lot of paint, it was only later I learned the best way was to use a soft toothbrush and some water.

For the underside I decided not to go for a squeeky clean look. The black in the pictures is Ultimate Black primer and both the grey and the metallic parts (suspension and engine) are Ultimate gray primer, with the metallic parts being dry brushed with Vallejo Metal Color Aluminium. The weathering was done with a mix of Tamiya panel line washes and some grey oil paints.

Image

On the tires and in the wheel wells I added some Revell Mud Green weathering powder. I also did some sanding on the tires to dull them down a bit.

Image

Image

I first sprayed the tail lights with Tamiya clear red but i found it to be too orange, so I went with Alclad clear red instead.

Image

Things kind of went downhill from here to a point where I was considering chucking it in the bin (paint chipping off, clear parts fitting badly, traces of glue,...) so I stopped taking pictures. I finished it anyway and managed to get it to look half decent. Still a lot of mistakes, though. Reveal thread can be found here:
