The fulcrum is one cool jet! Be good to see how those Russian paints work out for you. Good luck mate.

That is easily the best detail on a 48th scale kit, just superb. You certainly know how to pick a great kit and having the correct shade of paint,s make,s this a winner all round. I also am not a fan of modern jet,s but when you see a kit of this quality and value for money it,s hard not to be swayed. This is definitely one I will be keeping an eye on, brilliant, Dave.

Cheers Guys

Yes dave i always research kits alot more now, got rid of all the kits i thought not good and now just have good quality kits in the stash. From the moment i saw this on pre release i knew i wanted it, awesome aircraft and that box art is a winner.

Anyway i made a start on the cockpit this afternoon, feels really weird compared to the corsair one ive just done, all the parts felt really fiddly lol.

So all the ejector seat parts cut from the sprue and cleaned up
Image

All the cockpit parts assembled and glued into sub sections for painting and weathering.
Image

Primed in alclad white primer, two reasons, i wanted to crack on with this and it dries almost straight away :th: and i hadnt use dit since buying it :nena: Great primer just like the others. You really are missing out not using this stuff.
Image

The main cockpit colours

Flat black and a greeny grey, which turns out to be a very close match for rlm 78 :cheers2:

Image

The ejector seat and cockpit sprayed up ready for detailing
Image

Ill be back...... :hi:

Cheers boys.

Well the pit is all together, drybrushed and a wash applied (just like i always do lol)

The detail is ok for a 1/48 with no real pe in there, the dials call for over 15 little decals, looking into the pit you can barely see the display so im in two minds whether to spend a couple of hours doing something that will never be seen.

Like i say not a bad cockpit, i think ive been spoilt by the level of detail in that corsair though, but im happy with it.

Yes chief the kit is really well detailed :th:

Sprayed the outer cockpit on the fuselage, still need to spray the front flat black and weather the rear section. Also added, the intakes and PE grills :th:

Image

The landing gear wells were assembled and glued in position, very slight fit issues with the rear bays but, with a little clamping they glued in position fine

Holy Brad Pitt Paul.
I go out for the day and POOF... almost done... It's a Group Build!!! Not a Weekend Build sheesh.
So I take it that you had some time today?
I just sat down... it's 9pm and my little fella isn't in the mood to sleep at the moment. :nena:
So not much work for me.
You certainly made up for it. Wow... it's soo tiny compared to the Corsair. Still looks great after you worked your magic.
I think that Lee should definitely pick this kit up. It looks fraking awesome! :th: :th: :th:

So last night i thought ill add those decals so this afternoon i applied all 20 of them to the panel, its look alot better and is alot more visible from the canopy than i thought. Fiddly little buggers but they didnt take too last.
Image

I also masked up the front ready for the matt black
Image

Once this was dry, i dry brushed some flat aluminium and applied a light wash to the fresh paintwork blending it to the cockpit, later ill dry brush a little of the cockpit colour to blend it a little. The cockpit tub was then glued in position.

I can't seem to put this thing down lol, it's an awesome kit, I read a review online and they said it was, the best 1/48 kit out there, big claims but I can see why.

Anyway got the tails assembled and glued in position. Also dry fitted the fuselage halves ready for glueing tomorrow :th:

Image

Both engine intakes glued together, needing just a light go over some mr surfacer tomorrow :cheers2:

Cheers Michael

So today i glued the fuselage halves together, it went together with no problems at all. :th:
Image

A little bit of sanding and the sides are very nearly spot on.

Image

Just two places on the fuselage that need a bit of mr surfacer, not even filler just mr surfacer, what an awesome kit.
Image
Image

Ailerons and elevators in position
Image

They are even able to move position 8-) :cheers2: :thumb1:

Intakes all sanded and filled, they just need some re-scribing.

Yes another update

Engines. :nena:

All the parts needed to assemble one of the engines

Image

Bit fiddly but all the parts fitted together well, you can pose the engine in or out of the aircraf, theres a basic stand to hold one of them to display, sadly with the engines installed you cannot see them at all, so not much point painting and weathering them, shame as the detail is superb.
Image

So both engines glued in position and all the intake and covers glued in place. theres a strange seam beihnd the intake on the engne covers, its identical both sides : a little bit of filler will sort that no problem, but its as though they should be there :ooops:

Ive left of the rear most parts to allow easier painting later once the camo work has been done :th: i doubt ill get any more done on this until wednesday as GTA5 (video game ;) ) is released tomorrow, and ill be on that most of the day and night lol

Is there an option to have a panel open showing the engines or is all that detail completely covered?

Yes you could leave off one or both of the rear housings, its quite a snug fit so might even hold itself on there without glue.

It would be really cool if you could build it so that you could position it in flight one month, then when you're bored, switch it out and put it on a tarmac or carrier dio with all the hatches open and the engines out.
I'm sure it's possible... but not without a wee bit of tweakin. haha.

Or... you could just build two. hahaha.

That sounds good Coen, in wargaming everyone uses magnets on everything so they can have all the options with one model IE machine-gun or cannon etc - I haven't yet seen this done with a scale model kit, something I may try in the far future.

Holy smoke man, I've just got back from a weekend away and sat down for a bit of a catch-up, to find a build almost completed.

Another master-build so far Paul - incredible! :th:
Had a feeling you'd go with the decals and it really adds to the detail!

Got a little done today.

Got the nose cone on,glued in place and with a little filler, needs tidying up and a bit of rescribing tomorrow.

Also got filler in all the little gaps between the fuselage and engine intakes, not much just a touch of plastic putty wiped of while still wet.

Lots of cotton buds, you can't beat picking one up thinking its new licking it and getting a mouthful of putty :wtf:

This is awesome!
Detailing its superb :th:
Can't wait to see this bird painted.
Maybe a stupid question, but need planes weathering too?
I'm more a AFV guy, so I was curious :

You can weather a plane as much as you like, if it's an old prop aircraft then exhaust and gun staining can be added as well as chipping and other damage. Modern jets suffer from paint fading and bleaching.

Myself I don't like heavily weathered aircraft, for jets (which I'm new too) I'll pre shade, for the first time on this I'm going to add faded panels/slight mottling in the paintwork and once finished I'll apply a dark wash to the panel lines

Looking very nice bud....

Little tip - Unused cotton buds in the container, used ones on the bench :th: Though, I've lost count the amount of times I've done it too...lol
