90 mm Mameluke Officer, 1808 from Andrea Miniatures

Post by rodrant »

So my very late entry in this SiG , let's see if I finish it on time ...

My Choice is this Figure in Resin and White metal from Andrea Miniatures in 90 mm , 'Mameluke Officer , 1808 '

Image

Image

The figure depicts the legendary Chef d'escadron François Antoine Kirman .He was born in 1768 , was appointed captain of the regiment de Chasseurs a cheval in 1807 and Chef D'escadron of the same regiment in 1808 , at this point he command the Mamelukes that fought in Prussia in 1809 and Spain in 1810 .

This very colourfull cavalry unit was originated with the company of mounted Janissaries from Syria raised by Major Kleber in 1799 , this unit evolve during the consulate and Empire , becoming the 10th Sqdn of the Chasseurs à Cheval from the Imperial Guard , in 1813 .

In this figure , and not very usual in figures (actually the 90 mm size figures came with this , not the smaller ones and busts...) we get a booklet ...

Image

A 'list' of all parts ...a lot of them ...

Image

Assembly images ...

Image

small text with the history of the figure

Image

All Andrea figures has a quality sticker , usefull if you want to request new parts or damaged ones , and a small leaflet with some basic painting instructions , not specific to the figure but an overall tips on how to do figure painting

Image

and a view of the pieces all come win a very protective card box and foam that kept everything in perfect shape

Image

so now a lot of work cleaning the pieces , most of them in white metal , only the figure bust of the officer being in resin , this permits that the piece do not get heavy ...after cleaning filling the seams and prime it to start painting ...not an easy figure as I also must study it to see what I can assemble and how I gonna paint it , the horse should be mostly with Airbrush , but will check later in another thread ...

António

I Started cleaning the parts in the horse and figure , leaving all small parts for after ...meanwhile checking how all parts fit

Image

Image

the figure of the MAmeluke has the torso and head in Resin , stilll his moustache is in white metal

A very Big Figure

I glued the horse to the wooden base and mask it with Tamiya tape , all the cleanig was doen using a modelling knife and Ultimate sanders, they are good for this too :-)

Image

So and after a Primer session using Ultimate White Primer , I start adding the base colour , some mix between White (nº 2 from Andrea White colour set )and a small Black colour (nº 1 from Black colour Set from Andrea ) , the blak is just to break the white colour (even nº 2 from the andrea set isn't pure white ...

Image

First shadow was added to the base , some more of the nº 1 Black color from Black color set , also used it for the hair of the horse

Image

Image

then 2nd shadow was nº 5 color from Balck color set from Andrea

Now I used XNAC 45 and XNAC 42 (these are the references from Andrea colors) for doing the small pink spot on the nose of the horse and also in the mouth

Image

Some Highlight using nº 3 and nº 4 from White color set

Image

Image

Image

Image

Start adding some color ...red base for the harnesses

Image

Still a lot of detail to do with brush ...all base highlight and shadows were done with airbrush , used Andrea Thinner with the paints ...

The REd is the base red from ....Andrea colors Red Paint set ...and after will use all the Lights and shadows from the set to finish the harnesses

So after I start to paint the MAmeluke

Also painted the Saddle with Leopard spots ans start doing the flesh tones in the figure

Image

Image

After I start painting the vests , using red base from Andrea miniatures Red Paint Set

Image

Image

The figure mounted to see how it looks

Image

Image

Image

Now doing the golden yellow , I mix some gold color with some yellow nº 5 from Yellow Paint set , just to make it different from a mettalic gold , as this are vests

Image

Slowly is getting more colurful

Image

Arm golden details ...

Image

Image

Then do all the details ...waist scarf , ammo pouch , dagger , pistols ...
