Coops Copter 1/48 Wessex UH.5

Post by Coops »

1st official ISM SIG.. some thing to do while i wait for the stuka bits to dry n finish that along the way. This is a little less ambitious but I really enjoyed. Hopefully no downtime for surgery.. but well find that out next week... Anyway heres what I propose.

Image

The Westland Wessex is a British-built turbine-powered development of the Sikorsky H-34, it was developed and produced under license by Westland Aircraft (later Westland Helicopters). One of the main changes from Sikorsky's H-34 was the replacement of the piston-engine powerplant with a turboshaft engine; the Wessex was the first helicopter in the world to be produced in large numbers that made use of a gas turbine propulsion system.
The Wessex was initially produced for the Royal Navy (RN) and later for the Royal Air Force (RAF)
The Scheme I have chosen is ROYAL NAVY XT480 847SQN

Royal Marines mv Atlantic Causeway HMS Raleigh mv Atlantic Causeway ( 13-may-82 ) deployment Operation Corporate (SEE BELOW]

Operation Corporate was the UK name given to the conflict between it and Argentina to retake the Falkand Islands (Islas Malvinas) and associated South Atlantic territories following their seizure by military invasion in early April 1982. The UK despatched a large naval task force and associated air and land forces, often using the Ascension Island as a mid point mounting base. Most of the UKs helicopter squadrons and/or their personnel found themselves involved in this operation sooner or later. Many of the helicopter types involved were upgraded to improve their capabilities or survivability. This conflict also marked the first combat use of the newly delivered RAF Chinook HC Mk1, and where several were lost, along with many other reinforcement helicopters, following the Exocet sinking of the Atlantic Conveyor

Its dual badge italeri academy so i am unsure which came first. It feels ok and there is pretty much no flash compared to the hasegawa stuka so hopefully it will be a little smoother build

Very cool choice. Have the Italeri Junglie stashed away so looking forward to following along with your build.

Waiting for a couple of paints to drop in so the internal kit is 90% done. ready for priming and painting and the last cockpit pe.
After reading some posts from people who worked on them previously. I wont be going mad on weathering and dirtying. They wont be perfect, nothing is but the gist was , when they worked on them it was a point of pride to keep them clean, well maintained and fresh. Now I totally get this. When i was in the RAAF we kept our beasties very clean. Inside , outside, topside and below. There was always a tin of paint to touch up bits n bob, even on ops. There r leaks n streaks but they dont always be filthy.

Anyway heres where we are just now!

Soo I am happy with the progress and I will attempt to complete it this weekend. Green and Shiny next step.

Keep at her bud, you are doing great!!!Deadline be dammed!
The surface PE is really making this shine so don't give up on her

Nothing like losing a PE part to the floor after scraping or cutting up the model so that the PE will fit :bash: :wall:

I have used Tamiya X20 on stubborn decals and it works to settle them down
You just have to be careful not to slop it all over and ruin your paint

Ah now if i had my ab i would have been blasting it with x20 right now... thanks tho thats a good tip to know...I ended up pulling one off.. it was looking bad and i dont think it will be missed... some of the dimensions of them were way off so i might paint a little spot where it shoild be and might just cover it.
I guess I can work a little on the stuka sig build again LOL....
