Zorabeth ,Morning mist

Post by MarkVerploeg »

Hi guys
So this will be my entry
I will be building the Zorabeth figure by Andrea in 54mm scale
Wich could get intresting as i never nade a horse before and rarely make any figures in this scale
I prefer the 70 and 75mm scales over the smaller ones
But this one just looks too cool

So what exactly will i be building

Some small bits

Overall i think this is a nicely detailed white metal figure
But just like with most of these figures there is a lack of instructions
But i think i can make it work anyway
Even though it means that i will be puzzling for a while

So you next time
Cheers
Mark

It does look good but to be honest i prefer resin
Much lighter in weight so it doesn't put as much stress on the glue
Allthough an advantage is that you can bend metal a lot easier then resin if needed

Well hopefully i won't mess it up for starters
But all the details are raised or have a fine line around it
So it won't be a matter of painting it according to judgement
But i still need to start assembling it
I also started a T-90 today and so far that is all i have been working on

Hi guys
So i took a break from the T-90 and worked on this figure for about an hour
Out of all the figures i ever made this must have been the one with the most parts
And ofcourse the one without instructions :bash: :wall:
So it was a bit of a puzzle to assemble but in the end i managed to put it together
I ended up using a bit of filler and a bit of CA glue as filler in some places like the neck of the rider but all i can say is wow
This thing is really detailed for a figure this size
But see for your self ,just keep in mind metal is hard to photograph

Image20170601_190532 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
The horse
There was a big seam line along the 2 halfs but other then that it was pretty straight forward to put together

Image20170601_190558 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
The 2 put together
They aren't glued together as that would make painting even harder and i think this will be hard enough as it is
Because the full figure weighs quite a bit the balance is a bit off
The rider just wants to fall off the back every time so i had to use a big bottle to keep it in place for this shot

But the assembly is over and now i need to figure out how i am going to prepare them for primer and paint
At this point the weight of both the figures can become a problem
And i need to find a way to display it
The kit supllied base won't fit the legs of the horse
So i need something to replace it
Either scratch build or bought (or a bit of both)

Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care and happy modelling
Cheers
Mark

Thank you Pete
And yes there is a lot of detail
But i plan on painting the skin and the horse with the airbrush
All the clothing and detail can be done wuth brushes
The only thing i am not so sure about is the color of the horse
The white with sort of blonde doesn't really appeal to me so i may have to google for some pictures of horses to see if i can find something i like better

I do the same as i always do
First i will use Mr metal primer from Gunze and once that is dry i will use the Ultimate grey primer
The mr metal primer is a clear primer but even without a additional primer it makes painting metal easy
Even pe parts and metal barrels

It is quite a nice product to work with
You can simply brush it on and it gives a better base for the acrylics to stick to
Not that expensive either

And i agree it looks pretty cool even without paint
I hope that it is going to be a slow day at work so i can leave early and start priming
But i need to finish 2 sets of tank tracks vefore i will start priming
Saves me a massive airbrush clean up session ,now it will be one clean up instead of 2

Nice isn't it
I found that tip in the book about the black and white painting technique
He explaint that because the acrylic will adhere better you are less likely to apply too much or unneeded amounts of layers
Because now the primers and or paints stick to the metal like it does on styrene
So i simply ordered a bottle when i was ordering Aqueous paints
We only have 1 shop in the Netherlands that i know off that sells Gunze paints

At the moment not that much
I am putting all my time in a F-104 that i entered in a group build on a FB page that i am co running
And the thing was my idea so it would look a bit silly if i don't fimish in time before the deadline
But this figure is primed and i applied the skin tones
So once the other build is done i will get back to base painting this one

Hi guys
So it has been a while since i showed anything about this build on the forums
To be honest i have been very busy at work and at the same time i had several personal things (fun stuff though nothing bad)
So modelling was a bit side tracked but slowly it got painted
It is a detailed figure to begin with so painting is going slow even when i have lots of time on my hands so with less free time things go even slower then i though
But by now it is basepainted so that is what i have to show for today

So let's start with some of skin tones on the figure and the horse
Image20170610_011404 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
The figures skin tones are painted using Andrea paints
I used base tone 1 ,shadow 1 and highlight 2 fron the skintone set and they where applied with the use of a airbrush

Next was the horse
Image20170619_131731 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
I started out with the shadow1 color from the white paint set by Andrea as a basecolor

Image20170619_135146 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
A dark grey from Vallejo was used for the shadows

Image20170619_140429 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
And then highlight color 2 from the Andrea set was added
This is still an off white color

Image20170619_140852 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
And finally the last highlights
This is actuall white and again comes from the Andrea white paint set

Image20170620_020049 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
Next step was to paint all the other colors
I started out with brown for the manes and gold for most of the other details
This is shadow gold from Andrea

Image20170620_020100 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
The same gold color was used on the figure
The hair was painted with saddle brown from Vallejo wich is a color i use as a base for a reddish haircolor

Image20170620_020330 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
Image20170620_020333 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
Just an impression of how it looks so far

Image20170625_144546 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
While some paints where drying i was thinking about the base
Since the kit base doesn't fit i need to scratch build something and i wasn't planning on using just a wooden stand
So when i was at the aquarium (fish tank) shop a couple of months ago i picked up a bunch of pieces of savannah wood and petrified wood that i can use for figures as either a base or part of a base
Like i did with my moon elf figure at the end of last year
So i picked this piece of petrified wood as a base but i could end up glueing it to a wooden base with a glass cover in the end

Image20170625_144552 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
This is an idea of how it could look
I will add a bit of soil on the top with some grass or other vegitation
Also you can see more colors have been added to the horse

Image20170625_144605 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
Image20170625_200355 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
Image20170625_200409 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
The completed base painting of the horse
After the gold i added turqoise to the saddle and some other parts
But all these colors are just base colors and highlights and shadows still need to be added

The finished basepainting of the figure
I used most if not all of the same colors that i used on the horse
The cape will be white and blue while the clothing (the very little bit she has) will be blue
The armor has the same colors as the saddle on the horse

And that is all i have for now
Because the paint was still fairly fragile ,it rubs off quite easy when i touch ut a bit too rough i ended up gloss coating it to hopefully protect the paint that is on it so far
I hope to start on the shading and highlights soon but for the rest of today i am planning to work on some other builds that are entered in group builds aswell
One of them is my A-10 that is in the warring weather gb and i really want that to be ready for paint soon even though i still need to order those paints (just a minor detail  )

So thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care and happy modelling
Cheers
Mark

hi guys
so it is time for the final update
as some may have seen on the ISM facebook page i posted some reveal pics there
but for now i will post the last steps of the build and then the reveal in the reveal section once this update is finished

Image20170711_230334 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
i strtated out with the highlights and shadows on the horse

Image20170711_230346 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
and on the figure
i used the light gold color from Andrea on both the horse and the figure

Image20170711_230351 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
Image20170712_002307 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
so step by step all the highlights where added and some touch ups where made to correct any mistakes i made

Image20170712_004744 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
and after a while it looked like this

Image20170712_005715 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
then i came to the conclusion that the original piece of petrified wood i was going to use wouldn't work
i couldn't glue the horse down to it so i had to use the kit base and modify it a bit
so this new piece is going to be used

Image20170712_005719 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
a shot of the finished figure

Image20170719_120656 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
i then moved on to the base
these are all the things i used
i used : a wooden base with glass bulb
petrified wood
sand
white/wood glue
high strenght glue
water
static grass
some leaf material
magnolia strands (those things on the left)
and not in the pic some sea foam trees

Image20170719_121040 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
step one was to glue the white metal base to the stone
and the stone was glued to the wooden base

Image20170719_121412 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
then i mixed sand water and the white glue to make a sand mix

Image20170719_122806 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
the sand mix was added to the base

Image20170719_124902 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
Image20170719_124956 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
then while the sand was still wet i added all the vegitation

Image20170719_125233 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
Image20170719_125238 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr
and the figure was glued on to the base

and then it was time for some reveal shots
Image20170719_130659 by Mark Verploeg, on Flickr

and that is al i have for this build
next i will be posting the full reveal in the reveal section
thanks for stopping by
take care and happy modelling
cheers
Mark
