1/25 International Paystar 5000 Mixer
Started it already only have the engine and a few small parts prep any chance I can enter

The PayStar was introduced by International Harvester in January 1972, as a construction-specific versions of the conventional Transtar.

From 1972 through 1980 the Paystar was offered in two ranges, the 5050 with mid-range engines, and the 5070 with heavy duty engines. Available as 4×4, 6×4, and 6×6 , they were usually straight trucks, most offered trailer brake options. Semi-tractors were also available, the F5070 had a Gross Combination Weight Rating of up to 120,000 lb (54,000 kg).

Well here are the parts. Think I am going to need a case of filler nothing lines up right. The frame rails have more waves then the ocean argh

I love the kit subjects released by AMT. I'm often times wary about the kit quality. Good luck with your build.

I forgot I had this kit it's been laying around for about 10yrs
There is a good amount of flash and ejector pin marks and the seam lines are a nightmare
Should get my skills back with this kit after a 30 yr break lol

Old AMT truck kits can be worth a pretty penny. eBay sellers are asking $45 to over $100 USD for this kit.

Have the engine done the IH logo really was a pain in the backside. Have the 1st frame section primed

Great subject , this will be a cool build

We can moan about the quality of AMT kits together......I am not very far along so can't say just yet

Should of put it on eBay its turning out to be a real pig of a kit. Went to test fit some parts the exhaust is about 3/8" short where it connects to the turbo. One of the cab corners has a ton of flash along the windshield post and where it meets the hood it has a serious indent oh well just needed to vent take a crack at it tomorrow just to frustrated tonight

so I was able to manipulate the exhaust a little closer but still a gap. had a sprue piece that was same diameter as the exhaust cut it to fit in the gap looks pretty good. Next on to the cab corner

Axles and steering done. Air tanks and fuel tanks done, try some wash on the left one

Got lucky. Bought a sheet of clear styrene and mad a new one its basically flat with just a slight bend at the center post

My build is still sitting in the box going no where...so you are miles ahead of me.
Tamiya is great paint, but best sprayed. Having the X20 diluent helps, but I know what you mean with the brush and Tamiya.
Look into the paints used by the gaming nerds who paint figures.....I have some Citadel paints and they are great, but weirdly named. Also use Golden paints, easily purchased in North America
Not so impressed with Vallejo, though others rave about it.

IPA or rubbing alcohol can be used to thin Tamiya paints, too. I'd only go for the 70% stuff though, so it doesn't reactivate the paint that's already on. I like a bit of brush painting myself but find the Mig and AK acrylics make life so much easier than Tamiya or even artists' acrylics. They're close to the right consistency anyway, but you can thin them down to a very watery wash and get some great weathering effects. I use a wetting agent to get rid of the surface tension of the water. You get so much better, smoother results without the drying marks and pooling around details. I use P20 (polysorbate 20) from coconut fatty acid, but a tiny bit of dish soap (not enough to make any bubbles) will do almost as well. Happy modelling!

I heart my Tamiya paint for the airbrush, but it makes me have a sad when I use a hair brush. I've been using some Vallejo and, as Twokids mentioned, Citadel paints for brush work. The Citadels do indeed have bizarre names, but they are made for small detail painting of little metal figures so they are excellent to work with.

Glad to see this still in the works, looking great so far!

Thanks Lysus its painfully coming along had a major problem rattle caning the barrel so I am in a wet sanding stage right now have major orange peel

I have this same model kit that has been on my shelf of doom for too long, you got me to remember I have sheets of clear plasty card to replace the kit glass (fingerprints)

No build pics though,(started long before ISM existed)

So it will be a WIP and pics from here until finished

It is a pig of a kit. For some reason I thought I could use CA glue on the clear parts oh well live and learn

I think my biggest problem is the lack of detail or something like the rear fenders are way to long not that I am a rivet counter I drive Mixers for a living and have actually driven this model truck. Like to see how you make out with your kit

Front all done

Barrel on weathered the fuel tanks and hydraulic lines in place try to get a better photo for the lines

Engine has a lite wash have to get a better pic to dark to see

Tail lights to thin for my liking added so sheet styrene to give it more scale look

Calling it DONE. Weather up with Ultimate wash decals are aftermarket each letter is separate line it up by eye.
