Help with ISM Dark Dirt Weathering Wash

I have been building an Italeri Tornado F3 1/48 for the last few weeks and it was my best effort yet
I airbrushed it with Future Klear and then after a day or two applied the ISM wash and let it dry
I tried to remove it with a damp kitchen roll but it would not come off in a lot of places and seemed to have stuck to the surface
I managed to get most of it off with Tamiya thinner but it has wrecked the Klear finish although the decals are intact
Is it a faulty batch or have I done something wrong?
I am extremely disappointed I have spent days on the build and it was looking great and it is now pretty much ruined

Sounds more like a problem with the Klear to me. I've never had a problem with Ultimate washes which as far as I'm aware are just a clay based suspension which shouldn't react to anything, having said that I don't use floor polish as a gloss coat. I'm sure Paul will be along shortly.

Hi Peter sorry to hear you've had a problem, we recommend using a proper clear coat like aqua gloss for glossing in preparation for using our washes, I've found future to not be the most effective clear coat (barely suitable for decaling imo) and stopped using it myself a long time again, after all it is just a floor polish.

To rectify any spots where to wash had stuck you can use the green side of our buffer sanding sponge to lightly remove the wash.

Future is floor polish, best leave it to what it was made for.
I stopped using it as a gloss after it crapped out several of my builds. It's not reliable enough of a product for me to use anymore.
I use alclad's Aqua gloss now. So far I've had a 100% success rate with it on more than 100 builds. The only time I have had a problem is when I haven't applied it well enough. (Missed a spot) that's my failing not the product.

You can still save your build though... Future breaks down with ammonia,
So you can remove it and the wash from your model with windex glass cleaner or any other product that uses an ammonia base as an ingredient. Windex is what I've used so I know it works.
I have used this on several cockups now and it's worked very well.
It will leave your paint alone as long as you are gentle. Use cotton buds and paper towel dampened in the windex and it should take it all off.
Then you can reseal your model with a better gloss and try again.

Thanks for the advice I am sure it was not the Ultimate wash that was the problem I will have go with the Windex and try to remove the Klear and have a have a go with the Alclad Aqua Gloss

I have removed the wash and Klear with Windex as suggested and the decals are intact although I have knocked off some of the small bits and bobs and the carpet monster has eaten them!
I have ordered some Alclad II Klear Kote matte will it be OK just to airbrush that as a final coat?

If you want it to be very flat or matte then yes, that that Klear Kote is very slow drying Peter... Sometimes weeks.
It's a lacquer as well and it's pretty stinky.
If you want to get a good matte surface then Testors Dullcote is probably one of the best out there. Also pretty stinky and a lacquer.
Get the stuff in the bottle though, not the spray can. Mix it 50/50 with some lacquer thinner and you're in business. Dries in a few hours to a workable surface and it's very tough.
I haven't found a good acrylic matte varnish yet, that's why I don't use them.
If you want a gloss surface then get the alclad Aqua gloss, it's an acrylic but it's freaking indestructible.

I must be the only person that finds Alclad Matte dries within an hour or so! I know Paul has the same problem with AM, weird.

Thanks for the advice all I am still undecided what to use for the final matte coat I am going to attach the ordnance after the final coat as I believe the rockets etc. should have a gloss finish
I may go for the Alclad Klear Kote matte and just give it as long as it needs to dry

In future should I use Alclad II Klear Kote or Alclad II Aqua Gloss I presume one is a lacquer and the other is water based?
I have a bottle of the lacquer and some cellulose thinners to clean the airbrush

Aqua gloss is the best imo, the lacquer based ones stay tacky for ages

I'd use the Aqua gloss. It's 100% the better gloss coat. It's an acrylic so it cleans up with acrylic cleaners like Ultimate airbrush cleaner, but you can clean it with lacquer thinner. (Don't thin the Aqua gloss when you use it though... It doesn't need it).
