1/56 British Soldier Zulu War Era

Post by Twokidsnosleep »

Going to sneak a last little project in before the end of the year.
It is a test for a larger diorama I am contemplating for 2016
I have two more work days left so sneaking this is in on the weekend before the workweek starts, lucky for you if you are on holidays already

1879 Zulu wars in Africa were an interesting time in history. The British Commenweath suffered a large military defeat at the hand of Zulu tribes....to the ultimate demise of the tribes.
This is a War Games Factory product, a company now out of business

I will get a sprue shot in here too; good casting and some obvious attention to detail.
There are five identical and stackable sprues
These are quite well made...if not we'll painted

Reference pics of the uniform and battleground painting
Seems the officers had white helmets and the enlisted wore a kaki one

I primed him all black, then read that for brighter colours white would be smarter.
So I taped off his legs and primed the torso and arms white. Then went to town with my Citadel and Golden acrylics
Here is our soldier lad freshly painted and drying.

I have acrylic glossed him after these photos and will do a dark wash and weather tomorrow
Thanks for lookin :cheers2:

Scott, for your information Wargames Factory is not "out of business". They have merged with Warlord Games, who are taking on the marketing of the other companies products.

Thanks Mike, good to hear. A little research shows some sordid letters, debts and changes in ownership.
I recently purchased the Zulu kit from E Bay. The figures are very well cast and detailed.

Amazing figure painting and at such a small scale.
As for the Zulu war and others like it, it disgusts me. Such an unjust war, taking land from others and slaughtering the natives is such sickening.

I agree, but.....
Not any better in North American wars with the Native Indians, Australia with the Aboriginies, Japanese in China, Nazis basically everywhere and with everyone on and on. History is pretty ugly, all war is unjust depending on your point of view and side.
Model for the soldier figures, not to glorify wars

Yea, I feel like crying when I read about the Trail of Tears or about the annexation of Hawaii. Native Americans have always been heroes to me, all they went through to survive and defend there land. I'm shocked we don't have a memorial day for them.
