Small Tamiya Mosquito

Post by shasmalcaor »

Hi All,

Hope I am not too late to join this, I am going to build the Tamiya 1/72 DeHavilland Mosquito B Mk.IV

Had this in the stash for a while and it is my first Mosquito.

Image

I also have the masks and a PE set from Eduard to detail up the cockpit as there is a reasonable amout of glass to see through on this model
Image

The build looks fairly simple, but on looking at the sprues there are one or two problems, namely the interior is covered in ejector pin markings, in the cockpit areas and wheel wells.
Image
Image

I have already filled these in and just need to finish smoothing them out before priming, also attached the cockpit sections to the main fusalage of the plane for simplicity at this point.

I need to get this lot primed and the cockpit painted up before I can add in all the PE, which will be the next step.

Cool,
I have this one tucked away too.
Interested to see how it builds up for you. I will have to hunt down that PE set
Thanks for showing :thumb2:

Welcome aboard mate. Pity about the injection pin marks. Looking forward to seeing it come together.

Thanks for the comments.

The PE is quite hard to find, I was lucky that Hannants managed to get some in from a defunct shop. Otherwise it appears to be out of production, only the version for the Mk.VI appears to be readily available. I am not sure how much difference there is in cockpit components between these two, but I would guess a fair bit.

So all the injection pin marks have been filled to my satisfaction and I have painted up the cockpit and detailed it, just needs a couple of touch ups on the PE where the pre-paint has come off with manipulation.

The instrument panel is very detailed now
Image

The seatbelts and additional floor pieec definitely make it look like a biusier cockpit
Image

The stuff on the side walls is pretty much hidden behind stuff but at least I know it is there
Image

Once the paint touch ups are done the cockpit will be sealed away, having had a few dryfits a lot of the instrument panel detail is hard to see but overall it looks good. :)
I will try to do a shot of the cockpit when it is all closed up before the canopy goes on.

The wheel wells and undercarriage are all painted, just needs assembling, and then we will be onto sticking the fuselage together and the wings on.

Thanks.

Haven't posted in a while and forgot to upload a couple of progress shots.

Fuselage and wings went together easily and pretty quickly. I used elastic bands to make sure that the wings went on securely.

Painted the interior frames of the canopy before attaching it.
Image

Masking of the canopy was easy thanks to the eduard masks that fit perfectly.

Image

Primed the model with Tamiya primer and filled a few of the imperfections before painting the upper camoflage starting with Ocean Grey and followed by the green and then the lower fuselage black.

Image

The model has had a couple of coats of Aqua clear gloss, next up are the decals. Hopefully fit that in around a couple of other projects.

So this is the final update.

I have managed to get the decals on nice and easily and I am happy with them.
Image
Image

Protected them with a gloss coat and then done a pin wash on the upper surfaces, a bit pointless on the black lower surface.

After a matt coat I am trying out a dot filter for the first time.
Image

Once this is done I just add in the final details and remove the masking from the windows. Thankfully it is possible to still see the cockpit details through the canopy.
I will take some beauty shots over the next couple of days and then post them up in the reveal section to complete my first SIG :D
