Flying Desert Rat

Post by Timplastic »

For this new age desert rat build
I will be building the airfix westland lynx ah-7 1/48
it was part of the forward combat unit but i only have the lynx. The kit will be straight from the box with only extra scratch built detail added.
ImageSo for the start as always it starts with the cockpit and group area
pictures too follow

Very nice interior with enough detail. You can go crazy with the eduard on this, colour etch non colours and an exterior detail.Image

Every thing painted
all the colour call outs in the kit are wrong compared too photos. They state everything is grey with green seats but that is wrong. There are several different shades of grey and the panel padding is a green metallic colour. Seat fabric is blue for the benches instead of green
Image
detail painted for the side heating elements Image
Bench seats painted and you may notice in the back ground i had painted different grey panel in the front cockpit to mix it upImage

so too add some detail and to show what these choppers where used for i adde some blood and bandages to the rear bench
blood was a special mix of washes. The bandages where made from masking tape painted off white and stuck down with some white glue Image

so thats the interior done
I added some pigments and more Ultimate washes of sand and mud too the floor. and then buttoned it up
Imagethe front sets where given the same type of weathering and glued in. next step is get the two half's closed up, which i think will be a little trickyImage
once the halfs are joined i will then look at adding the dials as i believe there is a fit issue with the canopy
hope you enjoy so far will be back with more pics soon

So it took two evenings too get the two halves joined. If I tried too join it all at once there would have been issues either top or bottom
The rear exhaust shields needed a bit of filling along the joins. The inner fins will be covered by a grill so no need to fill them.Image
Next was all the little bits. Also test fitting the canopy. I was very happy too find that it fitted perfectlyImageImage[/URL[URL=http://s605.photobucket.com/user/timiva ... 2.jpg.html]Image

The next big item too build was rotors
These are inevitably very delicate and have too be aligned and glued straight. Airfix directions on the order was not giving me much hope so i modded several parts make it feel a safer build. With one night drying i was happy so its time to fit the little fiddly bits.Image
