Problem is, I've got one of these sat under a tarp in my drive way, and it's been there 14 years
If I started making a model car I'd feel really guilty! I think it's safe to assume that you'll get you kit finished before me....

I laughed out loud at that one!
You are so fortunate to have that car. If you ever want to ship it over to sunny (wet) BC Canada, I know someone who would take it off your hands...even if the steering wheel is on the wonky side

Re: 1948 MG TC long term build
Looking to strip the chrome and re paint it.
I have not done this before, so will try out a couple tricks on plastic spoons this weekend if possible.
Anyone with some advice??? Do people do this routinely??

Re: 1948 MG TC long term build
Woah, have not posted much on this build recently
This weekend was trying to get bulk of red paint done and wheels painted
I was fooling around with some glam shots so here are some pics. Everything body wise is still dry fit, rad just plunked there for fun

Still have to clear coat it and struggle with an ill-fitting bonnet, but she is looking pretty good and will finish off nice

Re: 1948 MG TC long term build
I put the leather and carpet in the back of the cab last night
I am working on getting those bonnets back into shape, removing the CA glue and fixing the hinges up
Have all the body dry fitted still so I can sort out any fit issues along the way
Hopefully more paint this weekend and then clearcoat...soooo sloooow

Re: 1948 MG TC long term build
Car is cleared, but not going to rub it out as that ripped off all the clear on my test area
I made two wood dashboards copied from the plastic
Shaped from solid pear

Thin dark veneer over a plywood

This is pear with aluminum bezels

Lots of metal to polish and then add fake glass and the dials

Re: 1948 MG TC long term build
Still, working with the dials, can't quite get the white balance on the computer right to make them the same...need keep plugging at it. You don't want to see the pathetic kit decals for the gauges ...yikes

So what is on the car is cemented
Got a few of these manufacturer plaques off a guy on E Bay for build displays...he combine ships them so got 5 different ones

A weekend's work

My home computer is letting me down printing out dial faces...will have to do it at work over the week. Hard to get a perfect dial photo off the web and then balance the whiteness properly to match off different printers.
Sorry, I planned on plugging away at the dash and showing you both to compare, but the printer had other ideas, so I switched gears and glued up
I am going to make both dashes fully, bezels, dials and all.....and then I will show you for a more fair comparison. I like the dark too, btw

Re: 1948 MG TC long term build
Closing my eyes and jamming the exposure up and down
I don't have a proper photo software program, so just doing it in my mac's photo editing.
It works ok, but I did things on different days at work and didn't match them well enough so the two larger dials got different exposures
These are pics from the Internet so they vary tremendously as well
Good question for the photo guy.....do I get Adobe Photoshop???
That was recommended by a guy doing his own model decals on inkjet printers...something I really wanna do, and was considering getting.
AND
How do you not RUN the freaking ball inside the 5 with less than a minute left with the strongest running back in the NFL????!!!

It isn't really that hard with a small tinge of woodworking ability and the right tools

inorite?? so much for beast mode.
anyhoo...photochop is a sledgehammer. you need a mallet. photoshop elements is an option, but for pure graphics layout there are other aps, especially for the mac. google is yo fran. in the meantime, if you need help with shops, hit me up. i can take your various images and match them up for you no problem.

Love those dials! Did they really only have a speedo on the passengers side!
I can't quite judge how big they are but I'm surprised you got them that clear, each number must only be a pixel wide?
I also work with Photoshop all day so if you and Rube can't get it right I'll gladly have a go.

It has nothing to do with my computer skills and everything to do with blind luck....and trial and error
I am going to take both of you guys up on program software for decal making
I have not found a great tutorial on it yet so maybe we should do one ourselves

I am at the final corner with this project. Lots of chrome to get on, the steering wheel to finish and the 'bonnet' to paint and fit
So far the chrome is disappointing and I am considering stripping it and Allclad painting....but I want to finish now...it may be bad enough to take it all off and repaint
I painted oil based paints on the steering wheel Thursday night...it takes upwards of five days to dry. So at midnight last night I wiped it all off and did it in acrylic. Just finished clear on the wood wheel and the MG centre logo
The bonnet is too long, so will have to trim. I oven cleaned the piano hinges overnight, polished them up and put bent edges in vice today to straighten.
Painted the bonnet red and had a nice blob of run down the middle....after vowing to do many light sprays
Going to get coffee and spend some time with wife

Re: 1948 MG TC long term build
Working on the label now
Using dry transfer decals as it cannot be engraved in the silver box
I have to go get some of the #er transfers; there are a few different fonts and many sizes

Will do a final pic when I finish it
