Lets see your modelling work areas

Since moving back in with my parents at the start of November, I have had no space to set up shop for the hobby. Mum had said there was desk in the spare bedroom that I could use, but Dad was re-doing the bathroom and that room was used as a store for a while. That works all done now, so I have moved into the spare room. Its still not ideal, but I have a kit out and I am doing bits and pieces on it.

There is a shelf under the desk which has my boxes of paints/tools etc. Dad is building me some shelves for paint storage which will make access to them much easier. He is also going to clear the shelves to the right off soonish (they have all my Mums quilting books on them just now) and so I will have use of those as well.

My main issue is that Dad has said no spraying in the house....even when I said I would make an extractor hood. So I need to talk him round on that one, as its too cold and damp here during the winter to spray in the garage etc. Plus I cba hauling paints, thinners etc out to the garage each time I want to spray. But if he doesn't relent, then it could be a paint free few months until I move on to my own place.

Anyway, here is the space I have just now.

Two new additions to my workbench.

I made the paint holder myself. Costs just a little time as I got the wood from work for free.
The lamp I got from Scenery Workshop. This has made a very big difference to my work bench where lighting is concerned.

Here's mine. My dad and I converted my double garage into an art studio/Modelling mancave. Most of my reference material is shelved at the back and the RSJ is a great place for aircraft models...

This is my 'model corner'

Panda 1/16 38t in progress

RSJ as a place to 'park' a number of aircraft...

and some of my many books and mags...

Ok here is my Mancave as it stands now...in for a major re-build come summer.

How do chaps.

I'm lucky in the fact that I have 3 work areas. During the summer I build in the conservatory and spray in the shed and I've also got a desk in the spare room that I build at too. In winter my beloved lets me spray in the conservatory as i'd freeze to death in the shed!

I'd really like to completely claim the shed and insulate it etc, but the boss wont let me chuck all the garden stuff out!

Its had a bit of a tweak since these pics were taken. More shelving has been added over the bench and the red tool chest has been moved to the end wall so its no longer behind me.

Ok, finally got around to fix my miserable "paint corner".
Here it is Before...a Sparmax 88 extractor on an old Bureau without drawers...hmm.
Pain to work here when Your 195cm tall.

Invested in a cheap but nice and sturdy table and this is how it looks now, just sat down and thought, wow what an improvement!
The main reason I Went back into the hobby was to build battle ships...guess Im all out of excuses now.

Schwein proof and done!

If You look at eBay the Sparmax SB88 extractor is the same price in the U.S. as in the EU.

Chaps on facebook were sharing piccies of their work areas so I thought id take a few of mine.

I have a large office downstairs (I work from home) with a standing desk that is an old TV cabinet. I use it to store some of my stash and to display my 1/48 aircraft and 1/35 armor:

I have not posted in this part of the forum before so I thought it was about time I shared with you my little modelling corner of the man cave. I do all my painting in the garage next door. The photo was taken new years eve so it was all tidy waiting for the Rising Sun Gb to begin. I have only been modelling for a year so I don't have an amazing amount of tools or paint but I am working on it

2015 may bring my family a new home
We are looking to knock down the old home and rebuild
If all goes well, I will have a heated two car garage, workshop and then a separate modelling studio over the garage. Wife gets rest of the house
Not doing jumping jacks of joy yet, we shall see
Might need some inspiration for workbenches and display cases

Well, I finally got a decent work area or man cave.
My wife and I decided to clean out the smallest spare room, that we used for storage and computer only.
I normally model in the living room but a downside to that is that I have to clear the table every evening.
But not anymore, The flyingdutchman has his own cave now.
I'm still changing things, and looking for storage solutions, but that's the fun part
I bought a plate holder from IKEA that holds the sprues. That works awesome!

There is even a place for our dog Flow, who likes to be around me when I'm modelling.

Thanks guys! I'm a happy camper now!

The sprue holder is a pot lid organiser from IKEA named "variera" (item: 701.548.00) And cost around 5 euro or 5 pounds.
Measures Min. length : 8.5 cm, Max. length: 50 cm, Wide: 14.5 cm / 14.5 cm
