The desk is a little bigger than what you see in the picture. I have two table tops from Ikea. The main one is 23.5" x 47" and the other is 23.5" x 39.5". They are in a "L" shape. On the smaller desk I keep the Netbook, tools that don't get used often, the kit being built along with any aftermarket accessories I'm using during the build. Not sure where I'd be able to put a paint rack. My living room is getting full due to the couch/coffee table/TV, the computer desk and now my workbench.

The black/silver theme happened by accident. Now whenever I buy something for my "office", it has to match.

Ok so I took a week off and sometime ago the SWMBO hinted that she wanted the spare room back for her activities, so a new modelling space was needed.

When we moved into our current house we acquired a large shed in the back garden, so the transformation began last Sunday.

Inside was a bit of a disaster.

Understatment of the year I'll think you'll agree.

Inprogress

All the walls are insulated and covered with MDF to keep me toasty in the winter.

A new roof was needed.

When I started on the other side the floor collapsed, much swearing and profanities followed and as my wood working skills are very basic I was at a loss as to what to do.
Basically the main beams under the floor had been eaten by wood worms and dry rot so needed to be replaced, took me 2 days.

Anyway here's the result of my sweat and tears.

I'm pleased as punch just the electrics to finish in the trunking and I'm sitting here in the shed ready to finish the first build in the new place.

Very impressive work on the shed indeed...especially with your self-admitted level of carpentry skills. Looks like a nice place to spend time playing with plastic.

I like the idea of turning a shed into a proper man cave...a place segregated from the house and distractions. I just wish my winter climate was more receptive to that option...I'm thinking that airbrushing at -30 or -40 wouldn't be much fun...though my shivering might produce some great mottled camo schemes...lol

Hey! I'm getting back into modelling now after about 10 years off. This is what I've set up to work on my models so far

It's not much yet but I hope to get some better paint storage, lighting and stuff soon. I can't find anything easily. I also need to get an airbrush extractor booth.

Hey guys,

I do my modelling on the kitchen table which, as I am now single, is a permanent location. No tidying away for me!

The only downside is sharing the space with my cat Ozzy's (AKA the Destroyer of Worlds) litter tray.

It is definitely a good idea to get a modelling session in before he has his dinner. Luckily as I also airbrush in the kitchen I do have a supply of face masks nearby.

Sorry about the rubbish photos but my camera broke and I am using my prehistoric mobile phone.

Looks cozy! I like that you have the computer monitor in the same general direction as your work surface. My computer is 180* out from my work surface and across the room. My rolling chair doesn't roll between desks easily on the carpet!

Started today on working on one of our sheds

here are the results after getting rid of all the rubbish etc.

Now I'm gonna put in some isolation and cover that up and put in electricity, lights, shelfs and workbench etc.

It's gonna be a nice little project

I've just started cleaning my garage bench. A few small things purchased and I'm out of money until next month. Haha modelling sent me broke and I haven't n't even started making a kit yet

I do have the beer fridge next to the work bench which is good (or bad)

I have been thinking about a PC screen and small form factor PC to put on the wall of my work area. This would be to bring up info, watch YouTube, digital instructions etc. It's a fair amount of costs, but I had an idea to use a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 because of the Multiwindow. We have a 3D printer at work so I have mocked up a quick bracket in sketchup. The base is in 2 parts to allow the charging cable or an OTG cable so I can use a keyboard and mouse. The round parts are to deflect and amplify the sound from the side firing speakers.
If I do make it (another option is to use a chromebox and monitor) I'll add photos or start my own thread about it. Just something a little different.

So, its been about 4 months in the new place and I finally have almost everything where I want it, and can find it.

I got more storage bins under the desk for bigger stuff, surface mounted where i can watch youtube etc while working, drawers etc tidied up, to the point I have spare ones, and kits semi sorted.

Rather than fill a page with images you are welcome to click on an image for the full size version.

Spray area with booth. Thinners, cleaners and clears on the shelf (most used beside booth). Lesser used paints, mixing cups, airbrushes in the drawers.

To the right of that is
Main work area (cleaned up between builds). The paint racks are actually cheap nail polish racks, they will hold anything smaller than an alclad clear/primer bottle.

Under that is
Storage, mainly diorama/bases/spares/accessory kits. The wood elevates the work area to a comfortable height for kneeling chair which is the most comfortable way I have found to sit and move around workarea. Cheap 'nail drill' under bench works great as a budget dremel alternative.

Under the spray area is more storage for primers, rattle cans, reference material, paint stands etc and of course compressor on the left. Hairdryer for speed building

To the left of the spray area is my computer desk etc. Those hose vents hot air from nas etc out the same window the booth vents out.

Directly behind the computers is the stash (the door is like that as this room is above the garage) end of workbench on the left of shot.

Out of box Star Wars kits and Real grade Gundams

More Gunpla

MAK. Figures etc

Stuff from movies/tv and some aircraft.

Thunderbirds and the big boxes live up there

Large Gundam kits and something to keep the bugs away as this room always has at least one window open and 1 light source.

Update on the work area, was more work than expected... But it's coming together

We've put in isolation and covered everything up, put some paint on it and voila this is the result

Still need to put in a table to work on and some shelves etc.

Really looking forward to getting this project finished and start building my first models in the mancave

Awesome Model shed Bob!!! I have noticed a lot of you guys on the other side of the pond turn garden sheds into modeling areas. Do any of you experience problems with heating/cooling throughout the year? I know how much winter/summer months affect the paints I use. Anyways, great spaces! Can't wait to see more photos!!!

I've put some nice isolation on all the walls and the ceiling and some wooden plates (18mm thickness) so that should do something. And I'm also gonna buy a little heater for the winter months (but waiting for one to buy in discount) and the place is not that big so that should suffice. Only thing I still have to do is put some silicones on the outside to make sure there is no rainwater seeping in. And then I can start putting in the stuff. Was a good project

So my area is different. It's not terribly impressive, but it's rather odd. We live in a pretty small 2 bedroom apartment, and my modeling area is a large corner of our living room. My girlfriend (Merissa) actually asked that I move things out there because in our last and larger place I never came out of the model room. So these three pictures are of the same room. There is my area, which is the main home of tools and such, then across the living room in this little dining nook surrounded by fish tanks is Merissa's current make shift modeling area. Then in between us, at a tiny table in front of the T.V. is my son's modeling area. So a lot this summer this was our apartment. 3 people modeling together in the same room. The fact my family modeled with me seemed to confuse the guys at the armor builders club.

Your modelling mansion makes me kind of jealous. I also live in a small 2 room apartment and Im banished to the wardrobe

Also, I love the volcano in the fish tank!!!
