Post by Tamiyasnob »

the decal,s look a bit glossy, but I will persevere with them although I will probably spray the yellow indentification bands and the white and red banding. Will post some more pic,s when progress is made.

Looks like a nice kit, unusual subject. Will be following with interest.

Are you going to model it in water, on a catapult or is it being hung?

Look forward to the build, best of luck.

Good of you to join in, plenty time left so no worries.

Interesting subject, I think that if your feeling up to it, this needs to be modelled on the water!

And the late entry is. . . . . . . . . A REALLY interesting one. I don't think I have ever seen one of these. I'm off to read up on it.

Good luck with the build.

I had a quick scan on the web last night, only 28 actually made it in to service and twelve of them were fitted with conventional undercarriage. There is one preserved example in America but not a great deal of pic,s just some beaten up captured one,s from WWII, so I will probably use the trolley in the kit.

Your right about needing plenty of time for the group build Jim, I can only manage about an hour,s build time most evening,s so speedy build,s don't happen here. I suppose that would make an interesting topic,"how much modelling time can you devote to our beloved hoppy, cheer,s

Pre-shading done using Tamiya X18, I use semi-gloss and not matt black to do this as it, flatten,s down better.

First coat of Tamiya XF 11 J N green sprayed and post shaded with a drop of X 2 white just to take some of the flatness to the finish.Under surface,s were sprayed XF19 sky grey and lightened with matt white to post shade. Airbrush used was a Neo and the post shading was done with heavily thinned paint sprayed at about 8- 10 PSI

Looks good with nice shading, i assume this and your other 2 topics are meant to be with your main Seiran thread. If so private message one of the moderators and they can merge them together. Don't worry Jim has fixed it as they say.

All other part,s primed up in Tamiya XF2 flat black, all the dolly part,s will now have a coat of XF9 Hull red as will the propeller and access ladder. Then it,s alot of masking again before applying more paint to finish the whole thing. And then decaling and weathering. :thumb1: :cheers2: Dave.

Hi,yes I am pleased with the way this is going, it,s not the most challenging kit but it,s keeping me interested. I would suggest trying a float plane to build, I just think some aircraft look really weak and un-interesting on their undercarriage. My next two build,s will be floaty,s as well, so I guess I am kinda taken with them, cheer,s now, Dave.

Main airframe attached to the float,s, I have used cyano to fix these as there is quite a lot of weight in the front of the float,s.

Here we have the aircraft sat on it,s dolly, the fit is snug so no "tail sit" is a problem. I am going to source a pilot figure from my spare,s box to add some interest to it and then sit it on a runway effect. All being well this build should be finished this weekend so I can start work on the Sunderland kit :th: :cheers2: Dave.
