This Sword kit comes in a side opening box which seems a bit old fashioned to me. On the front is a rather nice rendition of a Gannet landing on a deck of an aircraft carrier on operations, on the backside are the two scheme's in the box. Both scheme's represent aircraft from the same squadron namely 849 Sqn FAA but stationed on different carriers HMS Ark Royal 1978 and HMS Hermes 1968.

The kit comprises of two medium grey sprues, one small sprue for the clear parts, a PE (photo etch) frame, a film for the dashboard and finally surprisingly full decal sheet. Being a short run kit there are no locating pins on the parts, there is though a little flash here and there but nothing to worry about really.

The cockpit builds into a tub so there is no detail in the fuselage. There is some detail for the wheel well which is quite nice a should take a wash well. The real feature of the kit is the external detail which is both raised and recessed.

Some will probirly think that the raised areas are out of scale and I suppose they are, but that doesn't bother me
The propeller might need attention and the wheels could do with an upgrade but this a new kit so to date I'm not sure there is any (yet).
The clear gear is ok..not great but ok

The PE looks familiar, I wonder who manufactured this? I've had bad results with a film dash but I'll have to bit the bullet and get on with it as there is no detail on the plastic part.

Decal sheet is surprisingly busy as I've said, don't forget these are 1:72, but they are glossy and a bit thick so we'll have to see how they good down. Nice colour though and seem to be in register.

You can make your own mind up about the instructions lads..

So there you are, a new tool 1:72 Gannet and there aren't many around so well done to Sword taking the effort to come up with a kit of some promise. How it goes together remains to be seen but I'm sure it will build up into a lovely model of an aeroplane that is so ugly she you can't stop looking at her.
