Dragon 15cm s.IG.33 (sf) auf Pz.Kpfw.I Ausf.B

Post by gustavlekstal »

Intro
Welcome starting a build log for my next panzer build.

There was a demand of a close-support Howitzer carriage for the infantry. In fact, it was a request from reports during the campaign of Poland, which highlighted the lack of heavy artillery support, unable to cope with the fast pace of panzers. And so to motorize artillery companies meant that a strong, armoured self-propelled carriage was needed. The panzer I was obsolete so a new panzer was born.

The standard sIG 33 150 mm field Howitzer was mounted via ramps on two receiving rails with fixations, and two "baskets" for each wheel, which held the entire gun, on the top of the chassis, with its upper hull and turret removed. This configuration allowed the gun to be put in place and also retired quickly.

Thank you!

Update spruces. Looks very good with minimal work with sanders.

Pe, ammocases, metal barrel and magic tracks that i really enjoy even with the ejection marks on them.

Thank you! Hope I get it right. You can trust dragon to make it harder. Already on the first page.

Update first page
This dragon.... Not a fast build. Its a copy n paste instruction from older kit!
Image

Fitted the tracks. First run with tamiya extra thin... Melted the tracks! Stole the tracks from a panzerjäger kit and glued with revell
Image

It's a hard and slow build!!! Loosing mojo

Don't lose your mojo! You're doing an outstanding job! Dragon are quite detailed and instructions are flawed in places but well worth the effort.

I can't recall a dragon kit that I haven't wanted to hand over to my daughters to rip apart!!!!

This is a very interesting build and something new for me, the Germans are very inovative, although I don't think I would liked to have been the gun crew

Thanks paul!
Its quite a disgrace against their customers and them self to emit this kit to the market before builing it themself. There are so many faults in the instructions and it looks like is just a copy from the panzer I auf b and auf a kits. The mojo loss is most because this dragon kit is expensive and I dont wanna f up! I love the detail dragon gives! So even after this cry Im still gonna buy dragons kit. But I will not buy a chinese car! ;)

You are right! Even with the bigger engine on the ausf B version it couldnt manage the superstucture. Prone to break down. High profile made it to an easy target. Couldnt store ammo in the tank so always needed a support truck with ammo.

Conclution they where more off the battlefield than on it. But great for us modellers that have range of subjects to choose from

Great work so far, Gustav! I can totally understand you talking about losing mojo... I guess we've all been at that point more than once (e.g. I always get there during the first painting steps). Just take a deep breath, keep your cool 8-) and stay at it. Again: looks great already and I want to see the damn thing built... :thumb2:

Thanks buddy, :cheers2: it's on the backburner while I'm building my Jsu-152. It's almost done building and I'm gonna start priming & painting in a few weeks.
