Meng 1:35 Soviet T-10M Heavy Tank

Post by OneSmallStep1966 »

Hi Guys, this is my second build of the year, a Meng 1:35 Soviet T-10M Heavy Tank.

It is going to be a straight out-of-the-box build, but I do plan to use MR Paint (MRP) paints for the first time to see if they are as good as everyone says they are.

Image

Assembling the kit was pretty straight forward and I found the fit to be generally excellent. I must also applaud Meng for their implementation of fully workable tracks. Using the supplied jig they assemble very quickly and I think they look great :th:

Build complete and Ultimate Primer applied, but thats it until the MRP Paints arrive (hopefully this week).

Looks like a high quality kit, and you're off to a great start!
(Also, I think the box art is awesome)

Why is it everything looks good in black primer?

Can't wait to see it in colour :thumb1:

I will just sit here and wait :pop:

Very true, but the MRP Paints have arrived so its time for that nice black primer coat to disappear (almost).

I have to say on this first try, the MRP Paint has impressed me. Its very thin (almost Alclad thin), airbrushes beautifully and drys fast too.
The colour I am using is MRP-26 4BO Russian Green.

very nice! quite a lot of highlighting is almost necessary on such a big tank. looking forward to seeing the next steps :th:

This is my first attempt at Black and white Preshading and i have probably overdone the highlights a bit, but they don't look as intense now that the paint is fully dried and I'm hoping they will darken slightly after I've applied a filter and done some OPR.

don't worry, most of the time I wished I had made the highlighting much stronger because the following treatment (varnish, washes, weathering) barely made it invisible :)

This was an enjoyable kit to build. My aim was to depict a vehicle that had perhaps been on manoeuvres and is dirty, but not all beat up, chipped and covered in mud.
I know it would benefit with some more blending of the track mud to the upper hull, but I've decided to call it finished and move on to my next project.
Overall, I'm moderately pleased with the end result and think (hope) my skill set is moving in the right direction.

Aint those wheels a bit clean in contrast to tracks? I would make those more messy. :-)

Yes, I overdone the tracks, but in my defence I'm still a novice modeller, and rather than try to correct the errors in a build I've deemed completed, I'd prefer to take the lessons learnt from it and start a new build from scratch.

No worries, and having my short-comings pointed out is the best way to learn :th:
